The Fields are Ripe for the Harvest
Don't let marginal Dem trolling hide the bigger opportunity in Wilco
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
Proverbs 10:4-5
We’ve heard reports of Democrats “trolling” the 2022 Republican primary to vote for the squishiest, swampiest, “moderate” Republican to help ensure that at least some Progressive policies get passed should their Democrat candidate lose in the general election.
Did this happen?
Probably, but not enough to make a difference, and talk of this sort distracts from a bigger opportunity
According to The Wilco all county primary results we received from the Williamson County Elections Department, there were 74,542 total voters in the March 2022 primary, 48,159 in the Republican Primary, 26,366 in the Democratic Primary.
Of the 48K Republican Primary voters, there were 3,110 that voted in the March 2020 Democrat primary in Williamson County.
Some may be trolls, others may have had a legit change of heart in the face of the psychotic, progressive disaster that is the Biden presidency and Austin city government. In any event, that’s only about 6.5% of the vote, a noticeable amount, but nowhere near Greg Abbott’s 15K margin of victory in the County.
But look again at the pivot table. Nearly 20K Republican primary voters did not vote in the 2020 primary. Furthermore, 16,532 of those voters did not vote in the 2018 primary and, 13,022 of those voters did not vote in the 2016 primary. That is a lot of previously disengaged Republican voters who definitely could have made a difference in the Governor primary or any number of other races. Furthermore, 6,362 this year’s Republican primary voters have registered since 2020, that’s 13% of this year’s R primary turnout and more than double the Dem crossover vote.
The point is there is a tremendous outreach opportunity for motivated, grassroots and issue groups to
Reach out to and educate these voters on the true swampiness of name brand GOP candidates and media organs
Mobilize them for effective, local action
Municipal elections are coming up in early May, the run off in late May and a huge school board election cycle in November. … Make hay while the sun shines.
