O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Cedar Park Mayoral Candidate Mike Guevara Seems Like a Nice Guy, But Where is He At?
“Son of man, speak to your people and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman, and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people…
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes someone’s life, that person’s life will be taken because of their sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for their blood.”
Ezekiel 33:2-3, 6
Municipal election season is upon us. May 7th is election day for local offices… not to be confused with the May 24 primary run off (guys, c’mon, how hard would it have been to schedule both on the same day?)
Cedar Park’s progressives are out to extend their winning ways after the prog candidates scored nearly a 2 to 1 victory over conservative candidates in the 2021 elections. Progs outpaced conservatives by vote totals in the neighborhood of 4100 to 2400 in 2021. However, the March 2022 primary recorded 4,504 Republican voters to 1,010 Democrat voters with Cedar Park addresses. Of those 4,504 Republican voters, 2,360 did not vote in the 2020 Republican primary and 1,905 of those did not vote in the 2018 Primary. Furthermore, the March Primary saw firebrand conservatives contending for state House districts that include Cedar Park (Michelle Evans in HD 136 and Patrick McGuinness in HD52) either win outright or lead going into their runoffs. These newly engaged, right-leaning voters in Cedar Park present an opportunity for Cedar Park patriots to make a good showing….
…if they show up.
Which brings us to the Mayoral Candidacy of Mike Guevara.
A former city council member and Republican state house candidate, Mr. Guevarra does have an admirable record of service to the community, including helping found Reveal Resource Center, a local Christian ministry other WPC writers have raved about.
However, we observed him in several, Cedar Park city council meetings in 2020 and don’t recall him ever having much to say, particularly when Covid Facism was racing towards its soul destroying, face covering, science denying, rights trampling, fear porning full tilt in summer of 2020. In his time on the Cedar Park City Council, he remained suspiciously silent when other council members were attacked for exercising their rights of free speech and free assembly.
Then there’s the matter of his employment and potential conflicts of interest. His bio says he represents 20 other Texas cities in his municipal law practice. Well, that’s a lot of time on the road. How much time will he have for doing actual Mayoral things? Will Cedar Park get the real Mike and his clients get the Zoom Mike? Or will it be the other way around? More importantly, if he were elected mayor, what if one of his client cities and Cedar Park were both competing for the same business to locate within their boundaries? Whose interests would he truly represent?
Finally, there is a rather disturbing softness regarding BLM. Our sources have procured the following text from Mr. Guevara pertaining to the Marx-inspired, leftist agitators.
Getting chummy with a violent and corrupt (BLM = “Buy Larger Mansions”) Marxist group is no way to keep Cedar Park a great place to live, work, worship and play. Given Austin’s dystopian, Mad Max nightmare unfolding at Cedar Park’s southern boundary, we need to elect local officials who are not afraid to stand up to the enemies of goodness, peace and truth, not grovel before them. Would a Mayor Guevara have Cedar Park police officers kneeling before a BLM mob?
If local Republicans want to “strike while the iron is hot”, I think there going to need to find candidates who excite the emerging base of right-leaning voters in Cedar Park. We need our Ron DeSantis, not Greg Abbott. Will candidates
Fight for lower property taxes?
Advocate for or enforce discriminatory Covid jab mandates within their jurisdiction? Or fight for bodily autonomy, informed consent and medical freedom?
Prevent men from entering women's restrooms?
Defund the police or hamstring the police to the extend that it enables criminals to flourish?
Weaponize the police or other public offices against perceived political opponents?
Advocate for CRT-related instruction or CRT-inspired practices in government offices?
Sadly, with Mr. Guevara, the answers to these questions seem largely unanswered or unmotivating.
